If It Ain't Broke...

Yesterday, Weight Watchers unveiled its new program. It is called POINTSPLUS. If you follow the POINTS program, it is now obsolete. So to quick sum this up, they took a system that worked and threw it away.

They say that this new system is based on the newest scientific breakthroughs. And you know what? I'm cool with that. I get that a company would update their product as new information became available. However, my problem with this change is that I (and many others, who share my opinion) are forced into following this new approach. It should be optional. I was at the point (hehe, notice that play on words) in my dieting that I could just look at a food or the nutritional information and comfortably guesstimate how many POINTS could be found in that item.

I spent much of yesterday editing my stored food information and lists to reflect the new POINTSPLUS values. I have not even made a dent in it yet. Ugh. Should I even bother to learn this new system? I am only continuing to pay the monthly fees to use the online resources to maintain my weight. Why learn this new technique when I've hit my goal weight already AND I successfully did so with the old program?

Then there is that part of me that can't help wondering if this is a money making scheme? The POINTS plan is now useless, so anyone who follows the Weight Watchers plan has to invest in new merchandise. I already spent money on the POINTS calculator, scale and books. About $100 sent down the trash chute because now I have to drop even more money to follow the POINTSPLUS program!

Don't get me wrong here. If you are just starting out or thinking about joining Weight Watchers, I'm sure POINTSPLUS will work. Apparently, it has already been implemented over in the UK as PROPOINTS. There are plenty of success stories coming our way from across the pond. I am not discouraging anyone from joining WW, in fact, I would recommend it to anyone contemplating dieting. I simply think that the old POINTS system should continue to be made accessible to those who are already use it, love it and owe successful weight loss to it.

Maybe I don't like change? Maybe I'm a mom who doesn't have time to sit at my computer editing ten months worth of stored information from my own recipes to favorite foods?

Maybe I'm just a grouch?

Oh, well. As they say, "One person's trash is another one's treasure".

hahaha we both reppin' Oscar!!!

Love the new profile pic btw - HOT MAMA!!!

It totally sounds like a money making scheme... there are people they hire specifically to come up with ways of making the company more money... is there any way to keep doing your old plan? or do you have to start all over from scratch?

I agree with you that the choice should always be there! Good luck with the new program! I have no doubt you'll rock it hard!

LOL! After I posted this up on my blog, I realized that you did the Oscar thing too!!!! It was totally unintentional which kinda makes it cooler. We must be on the same wave length!!!!

I wanted to stick with the old plan, but they did away with it. The online program manager no longer supports the POINTS system so I'm stuck doing the new one. :(

Oh, well. C'est la vie!

Hey there - I'm a friend of Anney's (virtually). I've been doing WW off and on for 20 years. I actually only rejoined this month specifically because of this new program. The old program just wasn't sustainable for me (I only got 18 points/day). I really love this new program and have spent no other money besides paying for a monthly pass. You can convert the old cookbooks, and you really don't need anything else but the online tool.

I think this plan is much more than a money-maker for WW. If anything, it should get people to STOP buying their packaged crap that contains HFCS.

I know change is hard, and it would be a whole other story if I was trying to switch off the old program to this one. Hang in there. You may really grow to love it, and no one says you can't keep doing the old program. If you know it, and love it, then keep doing it. There are still online tools for the old program (not thru WW). It was just way too restrictive for me, and the new program suits how I eat most of the time anyway.

Good luck!

Just found your blog via Carbzilla's and a comment from your friend Farty Girl. Did you start the new plan? I'm a lifetimer who just got back to my goal weight. I'm attending meetings for the sharing aspect of it and also using WW on-line for the info and the WW app.
I think Carbzilla's comment here is right on. I'm loving the new plan!

Hi Carbzilla and Mo!

This is my third go at WW. I have been on it for a little over a year now. I actually was about to quit the online site thus losing the tools since I have been in maintain mode for the past couple months.

Now that I have been following the POINTSPLUS program, I love it. I WANT to get the new books and tools to continue to use after quitting my membership. Unfortunately, they are sold out of the items currently.

I was just sour that since I was at the end of my weight loss journey that they up and changed everything. I was frustrated that I had to learn a new system when I had already lost the weight. I'm over it now though. I now have 35 POINTSPLUS each day. Love that! I had 20 on the old system.

I never do well with change at first. It takes me time to embrace any kind of change.

Thanks for reading my blog! :)
